Ship 1: ApprenticeShipping/HeroWorShipping/IdolShipping
AKA: Professor Oak/Tracey

Program: Sai
Time: Uhhh, more than a few hours. I was experimenting, so I ended up derping around with layers and effects for a good chunk of the time. XD

Man I can't draw old people without making them super ugly or too young-looking. orz All of my fail...

My thoughts:

This pairing is…odd, I guess. Odd in the sense that prior to this drawing, I wasn’t sure I fully understood why it was a thing. Now, I still feel like I don’t fully understand it, but I appreciate its shippers more than I did before. It’s pretty obvious from the beginning that Tracey has this ridiculous obsession with Professor Oak (hence the many disturbingly accurate names for this ship). He has no problems dropping everything in his life to go seek him out, fanboys like nobody’s business when he actually does find him, and then assumedly lives with him forevs because Pokemon logic.

As far as Pokemon canon is concerned, I love the relationship between Oak and Tracey, and always have. It’s just adorkable. Tracey probably reminds Oak of his olden days back when he was simply known as “Sammy”, and I’m pretty sure the 4Ever movie is one of the reasons I grew up to love their dynamic so much. From this standpoint, I can totally see why people ship them. They’re so similar they were practically made to live together.

The problem people most likely find with this ship is the age difference (and as a double whammy, they’re both men…well, an elderly man and a minor. Ahem.) While I’m a little weirded out by it, it doesn’t really bother me until people try and turn it sexual, and then I flee in my discomfort. I mean, I guess if that’s what they like, that’s what they like, I just happen to disagree unless it involves deus ex time traveling. *bricked*

So, in the end, I still don’t really ship it, at least not in the way ApprenticeShipping implies I should, since I feel that they’re more like super close bros than anything else. The only real difference this has made on me is that now whenever I see them in the same scene, I’m going to d’aww at them. And basically just d’aww through the entire fourth movie. Well, d'aww more than I usually do. ._.

Next ship: Aquarelle. Expect it eventually.

This is super-duper-awesomeness squared. I love the Tracey/Oak dynamic, too. They're sort of like reciprocals of each other - Professor Oak is a mature man who's retained something of his childlike sense of wonder, and Tracey is a young man who's surprisingly mature for his age. I love the gentle colors of this and the quiet, serene feeling of it...yet Tracey looks so energetic, too! It's an insta-fave.

I like the softness of this. I get a parental/grandfatherly feeling from Prof. Oak toward Tracey in this (and in the series).

I find to like this shipping a lot, but I can understand, though since Tracey's first appearance, since ages are never really given except for a few, you can only guess, and I've always felt Tracey was actually more in the 17/18 range because of his height and appearance ^^; But I could be wrong ^^;

I always figured he'd be around the same age as Brock, which would make him roughly 15. I suppose if time actually IS passing in the series, he'd be around 18-20 in the most recent season, but since it's Pokemon, it's impossible to tell for sure. >_> Which means that, ultimately, the only right answer is whatever you interpret it as. :D So wins for everyone!

Very true :XD: Though it does get annoying that even at the start of the 5th generation, they still claim Ash to be 10 :x
